I haven't posted pictures of any of my tanks on here before, so I'm going to show my 125. Its dimensions are 72"x24"x17". Its residents are a 15" Florida Gar, live plants, and a lot of Malaysian Trumpet Snails. It has been up and running for about 2 months and plants are really beginning to take off. Excuse the algae as it is now getting under control thanks to the MTS. That's what happens when you leave high powered t-5's on longer than needed, with lots of nutrients in water, and nothing to eat the algae. Let me know what y'all think!

He seriously loves this wisteria. He always squeezes through all of it and rests in the middle. Its really cool because I'm starting to get a nice little patch for him.

Again, my gar resting in the wisteria.

Can you find him?

And this is the full tank shot.

Sorry for the quality as the pictures were taken with an iphone. I hope you all like it!

i would honestly say this places some where on my list for top ten tanks I've seen on mfk. i love those dimensions, i love the sand and rocks. i also love your choice in stock. my gar is my favorite fish(right next by my hydrolycus tataiua). they are such great fish and i hate it when people put a ton of gar in just one tank. one gar is all a tank needs IMO. i also love the aquascape. its simple yet very natural and not overdone. it looks fantastic and the water ways on my FL ranch which have gar(mostly spotted) look just like this tank setup. l sincerely really enjoy this setup. don't ruin it by adding a ton of fish but the fire eel sounds like a great addition as they are another one of my favorite fish but i would probably just keep it at those two. i do want to add that the things i would have done differently would be A) add a background, black preferably or 3d tree root style. B) i would relocate the heater to the corner of the tank near the intake tube and put both in the left corner while moving the output all the way in the right corner. and thats it. what are you feeding your gar? it looks pretty good. heres a pic of my gar. i got him on craigslist when he was 10" long. the guy i bought him from had him in a 29 gallon tank. poor thing. his nose was really banged up and he didn't really have a tail from the other two oscars in the tank that beat him up. gars are some of the greatest fish out there and mine loves to take food out of my hand and be pet.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! The dimensions are the only reason I got the tank! I bought the tank from glasscages.com and I really love it. I believe it is a perfect tank size for a Florida. My goal was to make it look like the bottom of a river! I still have a long way to go as I am still toying around with placement, and what is working and not working! lol. And yeah, people usually put more than one gar in a tank, and while it may be ok, it looks cramped in many cases. I feel my gar should have plenty of room to roam, chill, and eat without having to compete or worry about another tank mate in a 6x2 square lol. I do not plan on adding anymore fish other than MAYBE the fire eel in the far future. Hopefully I will have at least a 500 gallon, preferably 1000, built by then. I am still planning on adding a background, but I was trying plants first. I first wanted to do a wall of vallisnera along the back pane of the glass because my gar would rest at the top of the water laying right in the middle of it. My vals aren't growing so great so I didn't bother with that anymore. Now I believe I'm going to do a black background. I love the 3D's but I don't want to take up any more space in the tank. The intake and output tubes are the things I've been playing with the most. I want good flow, but not too strong as my gar wants to kill me when I make a strong current lol. I am really wanting an fx5, as right now an eheim 2217 is on it. My plants do a pretty good job at helping with the nitrates, plus there's not a big bioload in the tank. I got my gar about 4 months ago at roughly 12" (impulse buy). He spent his first 2 nights in a 30 gallon alone. He then went to a 75 gallon by himself. The very first food he ate were giant danios that I had bred a while back. When he finished those he went to goldfish. Then I began to mix it up with goldfish and shiners. Now he is taking hikari freeze dried krill at the moment. I have to go get some pellets to see if he will take them. But right now, he gets fed krill twice a day (morning and night), with fasting one day a week. Again, thank you for the kind words and I will post more pictures later tonight!

Nice tank. You should consider adding a floating plant so the Gar can have some cover at the top of tank as well. Otherwise well done!

Thank you! Before he went to this tank and was in his 75, I had a floating plant, but he would much rather enjoy the vallesnari. I tried duckweed when I first set this tank up, but it was a massive failure. It was beyond messy and made my nice brand new tank look like crap! lol. So for now, now top cover. What would you suggest? I'm thinking maybe some hornwort. Plus, adults don't really need overhead cover, mainly for juvies. He can always hide in that patch of wisteria in the pics, or in the vals, or in the swords. Thanks for your kind words about my gar! He really appreciates it :headbang2
