Thank you for your kind words! Yes, right now gar are my favorite fish. The arrowanas are awesome, although I have never owned one. And that's exactly what I was going for, simple yet natural!

Thank you! And yes unfortunately it's not very pretty right now, but good news is I got it under control and its dying down slowly but surely
 
water lettuce or water hyacinyth. they are both hardy plants, readily availible, and have a decent root structure to provide cover. it's worth a try.more beneficial than detrimental. at the very least you have an aquatic plant to help filter the tank even more.
