My prized male con died

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sucks. I remember when my prized con died. She was a real trooper. A friend of ours found her in a dumpster in not more than a 1 gallon hex tank you couldn't even see through. She saw the tank and thought it would be cool for a beta. She didn't even keep the tank, just the fish. Gave it to use because we had some spare tanks.

That con had the most awesome long flowing fins like a male. I kept her in a 10g tank on my desk. Even found her a couple good mates, but she always ended up back in the 10g by herself. After about 6 or 7 years she finally died. It sucked. She had the best personality of any fish I've kept so far and that would be in the hundreds. Don't care what anyone says, cons can be one of the best "wet pets" you can keep.

Sorry for your loss Natalie. You did far more for him than most fish keepers would for their fish. Jack was one lucky convict to have you. Good for you for that.

What a cool story. And yes, I totally agree that cons can be amazing pets. It's a shame they're laughed at by a lot of aquarists. I'm especially partial to the marble cons because they're so flashy. Sometimes I do a search on YouTube just to see everyone's marbles.

Thank you all. I know you all know how it feels to lose a favorite fish... it takes a bit to get over.
