My project 180 gallon Aggressive CA tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also discovered that I have to tear up a good chunk of the floor and part of the wall. Under the tile (where the old brick chimney originally stood) I was surprised to find a 8" thick slab of concrete. Luckily, I did concrete work for several years and i will able to tear it out rather quickly.

After tearing up the tile, I went to the pet store and bought a 25 pound bag of natural medium gravel that I'm going to mix with the sand. I'm buying another 25 pound bag of fine gravel as well; I want a natural look to the tank.

So will the stand sit there perfectly in that empty spot of hardwood? Great build.

No. That area will need to be filled in, which is just another part of this project. This area of the apartment is really the only place the tank can sit, and it would just so happen that the concrete slab is in the way.

I would have just placed the stand on the tile that was there, but the concrete is cracked and now 1/4" higher on the one side than the rest of the floor. Rather than try and fill it/grind it, I'm just going to tear it out, frame up underneath it, and put in a small section of new hardwood. It's a lot of work, but it should have been done this way from the start. The tile looked terrible!

*update*

The concrete has been removed from the floor. It was actually 3 separate slabs. I now have to buy some 2x10's to reinforce the area, and install some new tongue & groove flooring.

Also, the stand has received 2 coats of polyurethane. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up again so I can add another two coats. The fir actually has a nice rich reddish color to it with the polyurethane. Too bad you won't see it.

Nice dude, Im hiring you when i upgrade. :)

I think we should give my jags a new home. I'm thinking 500 gallon. :headbang2 BTW- You need to get some new pics of the jags up. I haven't seen them since you took them!

You'll have to stop by and see the tank when it's setup; I'm moving 4 houses down on the same street. You can stop by whenever you want...lots of sand to rinse!

Actually when i upgrade, i was thinking in the 400-500gallon range.
Ill try to get some pics soon. Im not very good at getting good shots of fish.
I also have like 1/3 bag of poolfilter sand if you want it. I didnt like the sand in my tank so i got went to gravel.

Ordered the plumbing supplies for the tank. It wasn't cheap to do it the way I wanted, but it will be worth the expense.

Also bought the last of the pot scrubbies. I gave them a couple of rinses in the washing machine to get rid of any contaminants before they went into the sump.
