I've heard the opposite. I have not seen a larger amphibius kept with tankmates. I think every amphibius I've seen has been kept solo. King-eL might be the only one with tankmates but not too sure if he has them in his main tank right now.
Quick update (no picture). So far tankmates has been okay with it. No one has died yet. 
Lung seems to be getting even bigger. I was doing a waterchange and I measured it at about 16". 
I might have to find this cool fella a new owner in the next few weeks. But we shall see.
