What were the water parameters? Anything unusual?

The water parameters were great: 0 Am, 0 nitrite, >10 nitrate. I do a 50% or more water change on the 180 and 125 tanks once a week. Matter of fact, today is my usual water change day for all the tanks.

Nothing unusual except for the mark from the pleco.

I know that I should cut him open for necrospy, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I put him in the freezer, until I can bury him in spring.

This is really upsetting for me. I'm glad I have a place like MFK were others understand.

Maybe the poor conditions it was kept in before you got it caused it's life span to be shortened?

Maybe the case. I will never know for sure.

I cut the first one that died on me open and really didn't find anything. I thought I had found a cyst but it ended up being it's gall bladder. Anymore I just freeze them and then put in the trash. Sounds horrible I know but not planning on digging my yard up to bury dead fish.

aww that's really sad, i think that hole that got sucked by the pleco might have caused infections? well at least through your experience i know i'd never put plecos with stingray

I have had a ray killed by a pleco and that ray was.

There is no ray safe pleco. Especially a royal. They can live with rays for a long time but when they decide to suck on a ray, it takes little time to kill them. Sorry for your loss.

THat sux :(
