how long has it been since he has ate... are the pelvic bones showing? rays are smart.. if he just dont like what your giving him or you changed something he may strike.... mine has done this before when i attempted to cut off her live foods... i even attempted to feed her a freshly killed minnow by hand... she would not take it... as soon as i handed in a live one wham! was from the same feeder stock.. same presentation ... only difference is i killed one and didn't the other not saying there may not be issues in water, or something else, but could be as simple as a food strike.
I was attempting to break her from live foods due to the risks involved.. however she will have none of it, she like most females can be very stubborn. mine feeds on minnows, red worms and med size frozen shrimp.. i do not like the minnows, but if i cut them out she will strike till the point of malnutrition.. i tried to wait her out once.. she actually went to the point of curling (super bad), in a panic i hand fed her what she wanted.. instant cure all.. within 15 minutes back to herself...
The only thing i can think of is she is possibly a wild capture, and just likes to hunt
I could be wrong i dont know.. not an expert .. only can draw off of what i have experienced.
If anyone has any ideas of how to break her from it please by all means .......
yes, i have tried every form of frozen and fresh cut fish ... as far as fish go if it isnt fighting she will have none of it...
