the lighting should be awesome it was the most expensive part of the set up at a little over $620 cdn.
To those thinkin g about doing a planted set up with p's, I have a few pieces of advise(by no means am i a profesional) I like to start my plants in another aquarium and then transplant them after they have rooted well and started to produce nice bright foliage, In my opnion this helps them survive the occasional biteing and helps to eliminate uprooting
It is also esential that you have adequate lighting (I have 216w of light from 4 t5ho bulbs) and also CO2, Macro nutrients(NPK),micro nutrients(Cu,Fe,Mn,and others) its a good idea to have all these things before you get plants because die offs can be expensive
for those of you with the time and no fear of driving around with baggies of white powder and scales in your car(or having them in your house) id suggest taking a look into the pps pro ferts, i have had good results with them and they are fairly cheap compared to store prepared products

Lookin good man.,., Ive got my tank setup with the plants in it for about a month now., the RBPs are on there way.,., i hope they dont tear them up too bad.,., its just now startin to look good!

Yeah I had a couple RBP's and they would saw down my live plants like a chainsaw. They would even bite the plastic ones and I'd come home to chunks of plastic floating in the tank. I guess they didn't like them. So I ended up removing all my plants. When I went to feed them 1 of them would sit there with his nose above the water line and wait for me to throw something in he use to scare me sometimes.

Here is an update for all of you who where concerned about the convicts,
I was doing a water change today and noticed that the con's had picked themselvs out a nice place under the drift wood and decided to lay some eggs
