My recent hybrid project ( not flowerhorn)

Keep a close eye on your PH. Crushed corral raises the PH very very high. This fish, based on his parents, probably does best at a PH between 7.0 - 7.4 Your PH is probably between 7.6 - 8.6. Way too high for the long term health of this hybrid.

I gotta say ya made a real nice looking fish there. Kinda reminds me of a green terror body wise and a red Texas with the color/pearling along with a flowerhorn for the flower spots. Love the intricate worm pearling on his face. Not a huge fan of the eye color but then again that's just me being partial to the color red. Wonder what he'll end up like when fully grown. Lol wouldn't mind having one myself to breed with my female FH I got. I think he'd be a good mix with my female here.

the fact you created that your self is amazing! You could create a entire new type of fish!

Yes I understand that. It's a test to see if the higher ph would help improve his head. If not it will be changed. My tap is about 7.6 already so with the crush corals it should be about the 8s somewhere.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping to see how he turns out also when full grown. I'll keep updates as much as i can. This line is still a work in progress so maybe in the future I might let some go to interested people.

That is a pretty nice cross. Do you have any pics of the others from the spawn? I think folks would snap those up for red texas projects. I'd get in line myself, lol.

Thank you also for the kind words red. I do have pictures of a few of the siblings. I will post them up shortly. But the next step was to breed back to mom to get the genes she carry. But I will test fertility with a female sibling soon. Will update with results later.

This breed wasn't a planned project or an experiment. I just happened to have the fishes and decided to do my own experiment. So far so good. I'm always down for projects if I see it might be worth while. I've tried different crosses before, some came out good some came out bad.

A fish developing a large head is 95% genetics and 5% good diet and water. That beautiful hybrid you created looks like it will have a small hump like the father. High PH water is not going to make it any bigger. If your tap is already 7.6 then a coral substrate might raise your PH to insanely dangerous levels for that fish.
