hello everbody. i found this site yesterday and have found out its a awsome site. but i have a couple questions. i purchased a red devil today from a breeder and hes around 7 inches long. hes doing fine and attacking an oscar that i dont care for. but hes extremely scared of me. when will that go away??? i will post a pic soon if you guys want

In my experience with Amphilophus species they have been outgoing and not shy at all. Give him a couple of weeks to get used to the surroundings.

What size is your tank and what are all of the tankmates? I'm sure that since it is a new fish, it will need time to adjust to you and its new surroundings. My Midas/Red Devil was very shy at 2.5" when I first bought him. It only took him about a week to come out of hiding. He is very outgoing and aggressive now at close to 6".

You might want to take that oscar out. He will more than likely kill it if hes attacking it already...especially if hes only 5" and the RD is 7". Besides, a 75 is at best only big enough for 1 of those fish...and it wouldnt surprise me if the oscar doesnt make it another 72 hrs.

I'm with VRWC on this. The RD will own that 75 very soon. You will have to remove one of those fish. The Oscar, especially at that size, cannot compare in aggression.

this is the first time ive had aggresive fish in years. i just got the rd because a friend gave me a 75 gallon. so i kept my discus tank in my living room and my plan was to have my own fish in my room. hopefully this rd will do the job. and the only reason i have the oscar is because im holding it for my neighbor. i hate that thing. its such an eyesore.

I don't think your neighbor would appreciate you letting a red devil beat up their oscar.

i told him what fish i was gonna put in there and he said it will last long enough. so well see. i just want this thing to trust me already.

I just replied to your other thread, then read this one. What the guys are telling you is correct. The O will most likly die and a 75 isn't big enough for both. The guy that said a 75 will hold both those fish wanted to sell you the RD. You sould take the O out as soon as possable.
