My Red King Kamfa's progression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man! This fish is gonna be a future beast. keep update.... I want to see how he'll looks like for the next 6 weeks. Nice fish :D

Here we are at nearly 3 months after I got this guy at 3 1/2 inches. He is now between 6 and 7 inches and developing faster, with more growth, and color then I could have ever hoped for. Now the question ahead of me is do I try to breed him soon, or do I wait for him to develop further, considering he is only 8 months old. What do you guys think? All opinion are welcome.

I'm enjoying the progress on him, particularly all the pearls. The rimmed scales look awesome. Is there a name for that type of kok shape? It gives him a lot of character. If you can find a nice female, I'd bet his fry will be nice. 👍.

Thanks Calichai, I too love the pearled edges to his scales. It reminds me of the same patterning I loved when I first saw it on a black and red Arowana. Im not sure about the name for the shape of his kok, however I did see a breeder from somewhere in Asia that had a bunch of his adult flower horns with the exact same shaped head so I may reach out to him and see if there is any specific name for this shape of kok. I love all the worm pearls that go across his kok. I have a really nice Thailand Kamfamalua female picked out for him I just don't want to introduce her to soon as Ive been told that it can hinder the males growth. The female I have picked out is super pearly with strong flower line and is proven fertile.

Hey Calichai, I heard back from the breeder in Singapore. This guy has some of the nicest masterpiece Flower horns with the same shaped heads. In Singapore this shape of my male's head is called a Torpedo Head. I personally like this shape because it is big, yet stays proportionate to the rest of the fish. On other exciting news, Im getting this amazing Kamfamalua female next Sunday to try and breed him. Check her out.

That's interesting. Torpedo head sounds like a fitting name. Nice pick up. That female is super pearly. I like the worm pearls and the full colored kok. Is she from the same line?

No she is not. I have the option to purchase a sister to my male. I know thats how I could insure a more red body as well as better chances for a strong kok. However the sister that is available to me is just not that great looking. Compared to many FHs she is nice especially for a female, but the Kamfamalua is just the better looking female by far. So I know there is some risk any time you outcross flower horn, but I figure if I can get some really pearly fry with some of them having a good chance at kok. Its been about seven years since I bred FH's and I want to do it again. This time I want to produce some real stunners and I think these two could make that happen!
