I'm with Ken. There's a reason why there is a hybrid cichlid sub-forum :P

They are damn hybrids, none of them look the same. They are all trash fish.

As I have said before, All dogs are a hybrid form of the original WOLF and I never hear people talking smack about people keeping poodles or boxers, as a matter of fact they register them as "Pure Blood", so Hybrid or not they do have a purpose and people like them. Opinions are fine to have but getting snotty over it is inmature.;)

sorry your wrong ,tell H2O aquatics then that they are not red texas because thats were i got him.and your last pics look exactly like him:screwy::screwy::screwy:

Well, they are wrong. I have been breeidng RT and SRT for a while with halep from others. SRT(super red texas) is what I mostly showed you, deep red, lots of thick pearling all over. Red Texas, or RT, are yellow, with not as crazy pearling. And, they are yellow. But all should have yellow eyes to be considered by the hobbyist SRT and RT. They are hybrids, thats why so many have different body types, but the color standard is the same, but as always the color patterns wont be the same. And, only like 6% of both will have a nuchual hump. You cant get a RT or SRT with f1, f2, or f3, more like f8 you will have something called either. Yours seems to be a scratch build and maybe f2 or f3. Still nice fish, and could be a great breeder to keep going in that direction if fertile.

Actually, it is not the wolf that all dogs are related to but feral dogs. An example of dogs that are "ancient" breeds or ancestor breeds would be basenji, also dingos and African wild dogs. Wolves are a different animal. I think the ACA's anti-hybrid rhetoric is out of hand. Ornamental fish are just that, ornamental. The guppy, most of the platys and swordtails, not to mention goldfish AND the ACA's latest crown jewel of the show room discus; are all products of line and cross breeding for traits. To limit cichlids to only their naturally occuring form is just plain dumb as far as I am concerned. The cichlid hobby does not bring in enough young people as it is and the hybrids are a great way to get new people interested in fish keeping. THAT is more important to me than wether or not someone thinks the Red Texas is a real naturally occuring fish. Sure it is a good idea for someone to maintain the pure strains, but the small segment of the hobby that can afford wild caught fish AND has an interest in devoting tanks to line breeding program to maintain the genetics in a state that resembles the original collection is not enough to ensure the hobby's future. Hybrid cichlids are a niche market that expands the hobby and brings more people into exposure of what it is all about. If the ACA focused half as much energy on educating hobbyists and making fish available as they do on hating and debating how bad hybrids are then they may actually make a positive impact on what is going to be happening regardless of their "wishes".

damn good post.

Dr's F & S used to have what they listed as, I believe, a red star flowerhorn. It's not on the site anymore. It had the dark red coloration on the front of the fish with a white body. If you ask me, this fish looks like a washed out coloration of that FH. Either way, it's definitely a flowerhorn, not a red tex.
