I have been trying the Red Texas Project for almost 2 years now. I started by purchasing the pieces, Escondidos, Carpentis, Blood Parrots, Red Devils, and finally two Red Texas Females from an awesome breeder in Greenbay, Pheng. My Escondido male and female Blood Parrot are the only pair that have produced fry (the Escondido Red Devil pair ate their only eggs). I have three Red Texas that have come from the Escondido Blood Parrot pair. The other pairs have yet to produce fry.

I am currently trying to find big enough males to pair with the two female Red Texas' that I purchased from Pheng. They are both 7+ inches and my biggests males carpentis' are only 6in.

Here are some pictures.

Good job buddy! I have my sights set on this as well. Female #2 is awesome.
any tips you can share with we who are going down the same pathway?

Thanks! I have my pairs in 55g and 75g tanks with 2 sponge filters and one HOB filters for each tank. I do 30-40% water changes weekly. I feed them twice a day (Cichlid Gold, Blood worms, Massivore, ect..). I have found it to be true that fish do better when people are not around. So they only see me when I feed them or change the water. Sometimes I try to do cold water changes when its about to rain or is raining. I find that it works to stimulate the spawning process more often than not. It has taken me a while to accumulate all the pairs. Its hard to find the compatible species that are the same size and figuring out their gender and so on. I would be glad to answer any specific questions you may have.

The blood parrot mother is more orange than what I would like, but its hard to find really dark red fish.

This is a nice project, and I love the female RT 2.

Nice work man good luck. Planning on trying to do the same wih rose queens

Those 2 female RT's you have are awesome! I got 1 that looks very similar to yours. From mfk member (cjbarth) Have yours laid eggs yet? If so, breed your male escondido to either 1 of your female RT's, if your male is only an inch smaller your male should be tough enough to pair up with 1 of them. You ever thought about using a female red fader fh for your projects? Escondido x bp babies are looking nice, keep up the good work and good luck on all your RT projects. Keep us posted!

Nice projects and fish. yea I got a flowerhorn from pheng, he's a good guy. He's mostly in SRT's now. Good luck with your project.
