My RedTail is eating Rocks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dont worry, your cat will regurgitate the rocks after a while. Even rough shaped rocks often get swallowed by RTCs. I would change the rock size in your tank though since this is going to happen a lot plus that size hides a lot of dirt.

Just be patient, even a few weeks sometimes.

Is it true that if you touch the tail with your hand that you'll get red stuff on our hand??????

No. i've touched both of my RTC's tails and no red stuff has ever come off

i have seen almost everything now...sorry about this.. looks bad to me. I hope it is true that they can regurgitate those rocks {if they are indeed rocks}..

RTC do this all the time, go with your first instinct and feed him a bunch to make him regurgitate, it may take several weeks to get them all out though. PLEASE DO NOT hold him upside down by the tail and shake him! No offense, but that has got to be one of the most asinine suggestions I've heard lol. Regurgitation is going to make a big mess so be prepared to do some big water changes and DEFINITELY change out those rocks to sand or something else small and harmless.

Sounds good. I wouldn't worry too much, like I said, they do this a lot. Just keep an eye on him. He'll probably spit up most of them on his own anyway.
