my 75 gallon reef with about 100lbs of live rock, 3 false perc clownfish, 3 pj cardinals, and a few hermits and snails has a lot of hair algae. i was thinking of getting a small tang (naso or something of the like) to take care of it and add color. is this spelling doom for my incredibly peaceful reef?

Nasos get way too big for a 75 gallon. You could try a Yellow tang, they dont get too big and are pretty peaceful. I used to have one and it never bothered my clownfish...

Heres an article about them:

You should add snails lb for lb they are the best algae eaters. do you have crused coral as a substrate that can cause major problems in a reef.

I always found pincusion urchins to do a good job. Sea hares do a great job as well. Try using some phosphate remover in a filter or reactor too.

i just bought 10 hermits, ill get more snails later. thanks for advising against a 50dollar fish. the crabs were 10 bucks for the 10.

Why dont u get a lawn mower blenny or a fox face, they do the job

crabs, hermits and snails were always hit and mis for me when it comes to hair algae especially when its long. Tangs are a good choice IMO.

i ended up saying hell with snails and got an algae blenny. hopefully this will work, hes cool too ;)
