My Reef Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to try and take some better pictures when I get home today. Thanks fellas

The anemone I was askin about is img_1246 +1247 looks like it either morphed into 4 or it's mouth is super wide open. Plate coral - very cool! Thanks for the ID, didn't know.

As for anemone feeding - I started my LTA + BTA on half silverside chunks (cheaper than shrimp) weekly slowly worked my way up to a whole silverside, too much at one time for the BTA he spit it out, LTA was wide open still and went up to 2 silversides weekly. I then ajusted the chunks to every other day feedings. BTA actually takes 1/4 every other day or 1 silverside weekly and the LTA eats 2 ( probably more if I force the issue). Worse case senerio they spit the silverside out and the Tangs go to town on it. They are by far easier to care for than I originally thought.

If it's any consolation, 4 X-mases ago we woke up to 150 gal of water on the floor and a dead breeding pair of Red Terrors. The bottom glass was not tempered and they were moving rocks around - cracked it. Like you I own but our fishroom is underground on concrete and concrete tile. We mopped the water to the basement door and down the steps were theres has a floor drain.

As for the skimmer - once I got mine dialed in I made an idiot mark on it with a sharpy. If I had your setup I'd be thinkin' tall wooden stool (matches your table+chairs) and at the least a 5 gal bucket on it under/around the skimmer.

The skimmer overflowed last night and I had about 5 gal of water on my floor. Thank god I own and my house is tile :) It's tricky finding a balance between enough skimming and too much lol

I don't know how your skimmer is however can you elevate the skimmer cup? For aqua C models (had the very same problem,....water overflows to the floor in matters of hours...where talking about 15 gallons)...my problem was solved when it was elevate however like I said I don't know how your skimmer model works.

Also Lol i see its micro bubbles, if you have the $$, space and time you should get a sump...I recently changed to a sump a month ago and the results are amazing! Water quality perfect( exception of phosphates, working on it), no micro bubbles, no appearances of pumps and skimmers....great however I'm pretty sure you know this lol.

Yea I would love to do a sump. I just don't want to put in the time and money for it on this system when I am upgrading in the next few months. The 240 is definitely gonna have one... In fact the 135 I am going to use r a sump is sitting in my garage. Just gotta get the stand done first. Soon soon soon:)

Good to hear, are you going with reef with the 240?, personally I like preds lol didn't go with it cause everything I wanted (rays, sharks,...) required larger tanks then a 72.

Oh that one is a torch coral. One of my favorite pieces :)

I'm definitely gonna go with a reef. I fell in love recently lol. I've been doing freshwater for years and wish I would have made the transition earlier. It's just expensive but I decided to give up on a few beers every week to maintain this hobbie lol

Any one know what that red coral is in the center?
