It seems like I just can't win. Picked up a leaked from Craigslist, had it resealed at the LFS, had to build a stand. Filled it Sunday night to start it cycling, watching TV last night before bed and I heard that sound that we all hate to hear. Rushed over hoping that it wa a just a bad connection on the canister filter but it was the tank leaking around the bottom trim piece. I just installed laminate flooring right before I put the tank in. Makes me want to give up.

After managing a fish store for 10+ years and hearing all the horror stories, I will never own a second-hand tank. Not that new tanks won't leak, they do. But I think the odds against are way better with new.

i would make your lfs pay for the damages that was done.
it would never happen. to easy of a mistake to get out of. it's just a simple answer like shipping damage, improper positioning on stand, or just thought you wanted the seals cleaned up for terrarium. it would be very difficult to argue with them to pay for damage. best of luck though

I'm hoping that the flooring will be okay. I'll keep a close eye on it over the next couple of weeks. Good thing is that I was home and in the room when it first started. Stuck two hoses in the tank and started a syphon to get the water out of the house, plus I emptied the laundry room of all towels and rags to try and help contain the spill.

If you glued the joints you're fine, I spill water all the time and never had any swelling.

sorry man. as a rule of thumb with me is resealed tanks need to be water tested. let them sit a few days in the garage, or yard or where ever. the problem with a tank that is already leaking is its leaking between the payns (sp) best fix for that is total removal of the payns(sp) and resealing from the start.
