Actually, I don't think small electrical appliances (lights and such) ARE individually grounded. I know LARGE appliances, like fridges, stoves, and computers do have a ground post (the little round one) Everything else is small enough that it grounds throught the houses' electrical system.
in the powerheads I've seen, it's just a regular 2-pronged plug. Each prong hooks to 1 set of copper (usually) wires...one is your in, the other is your out. since electricity runs in a circle, it would have to take another path back to the ground point. Well, no one wants 2 long cords going to 1 thing, so they condense and insulate these two paths and connect them in the same "cord" it's when these two paths touch that things short out.
It was running the circut through Lucy's tank, but when you touched the water, you offered the current a shortcut, and it took it. Which was your zap.
