So I recently purchased a Tiger shovelnose at about 5" and a 3 and a half in(now about 6" and 5" respectively after about 3 weeks). living with a 6 in. red tiger Oscar a pleco(5") and 2 sunglow cats(2"). The funny thing is the hybrid is the least aggressive fish ever... sometimes the O' will "hit" him and all he does is move or swim away. I know that he could and probably will eventually eat the sunglow cats but they swim with him and around him and he pays no attention to them, i think he might even enjoy their company... But he is the most gluttonous monster I've ever meet. I recently tried getting them off of feeders, went to the local Stop and Shop and picked up some beef liver (couldn't find chicken gizzards or beef heart:confused:.)
So I try the liver and the hybrid loves it, but I keep trying to get the tsn some... Freekin' cat keeps getting spooked by the falling peice and guess who finishes it. Eventually the rtc x tsn is bloated beyond belief and tsn didn't eat any... So the next day I try and feed my tsn the liver again, I drop the piece right in front of his face and again he gets spooked and swims away... and guess who comes out of his cave gorged out of his mind to come suck up the meat. Yep, the hybrid then he went back to the cave gasping for air and spent the whole day in there... Today he's out and his belly's' gone down a bit but I'm afraid of trying to feed my tsn until the hybrid tummy's gone down more because I'm afraid he'll kill himself from over eating. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions because I'd really like to get these guys off feeders but I haven't seen the tsn eat the liver yet.... but he hasn't exactly had the chance either...:screwy:

I have had my TSN and my TSN Cross from 4” they have grown up together and even to this day the TSN is skittish and the Cross is full of him self he will quite happily swim up out of the water to take food from my hand. I Found when he was small(the TSN) I had to place food by him with tongs. Prawns and worms work the best when he was small.

You have some beautiful cats there my man. Ya i tried for the third day and the tsn is still just swimming away... The hybrid is hiding right now so I left the meat in there hopefully the tsn or the O' eats it before vacuum comes out... I will try getting some night crawler's next but I'd really like to get them on some sorta solid meat that can be frozen and cut.... I had them on tuffies and guppies for all the fish to eat... plus pellets and sinking herbivore for the pleco and the sunglows and feeders would all eat...
Ya the hybrids has the best personality he's passive yet extremely confident gentle yet glutenous. The other day I was picking at the corner of the glass (near where he hangs) and I gess it let off small twitch impulses in the water some what like a feeder might... He followed them all the way to the top I put my hand above the water and he scoped it for food before darting back down... I tried to pet him but just missed touching him on his dash down... But he never even hid, just went back to his buissness.. The tsn is pretty skiddish and none responsive and i think even more nocturnal then the hybrid... for anyone that is against hybrids as a whole I think you got this one wrong for sure! He's got like the best of both trait of the 2 cats!

loving the pattern on your tsn!

We discovered that our 18" TSN is best fed after the tank lights are out and the other fish are asleap.

Ya, I've gotten them both off of feeders and eating canned shrimp, cut liver, sinking carnivore pellets, and earthworms. I usually come home and feed the Pacu pellets and the Jar either meal worms, night crawlers, or freeze dryed krill (still not taking pellets and only eats the krill after I get him feeding on the meal worms, guess he might get confused...) Then I shut off the lights and turn on the night glow light (purple light they use for nocturnal reptiles) and then I feed the kitties.
Here are some pics in case you didn't see them in the hybrid catfish thread...
