My RTCs don't want to eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think the problem is what you offer them. Healthy RTCs are incredibly greedy and non-discriminating consumers. Yours are stressed either because of the recent move or because of the inadequate water.

If they have no hiding place, as little light as possible will calm them. At 1 foot and bigger, they don't really need a hiding place anymore.

I have not found my RTC to be greedy at all, if anything the food that I feed it should be room/water temp, not cold or hot. I have never found hiding place to ever be too much of a factor but hiding places should help (maybe 5 gallon buckets with the bottoms cut off and metal handles removed). Without water parameters it is really hard to tell. What kind of filtration are you using? The bigger RTC at the very least should be eating anything. When feeding, do they even respond to the food and inspect it with their barbels(whiskers)?

Sorry I made a mistake, my RTC is very greedy and not picky at all. I'm trying to post in the middle of class while taking notes.

Last week all of the small ones die and today only 2 big ones left and they are dying...damn...

no one will really buy large rtcs unless you give them away for free, as not many people can house them; I found to a lot of pet stores they are a burden.

Pole, he is in Indonesia, where things may be different... and he has a 1,000,000 bigger problem right now on his hands.

Anyway, Skyliner, unless you figure out your problem and at least buy a reliable liquid test kit and learn to measure the water parameters, I fear you will keep running an RTC-torturing and -killing farm.

What is your hope that you have just finished killing like 25 of them and now bought another 30? Have you changed anything? Have you guesses as to what the problem may be?
