I failed miserably my first go at a planted tank...maybe too ambitious with a 150 gallon. This time around, a 75 gallon. Here are some progression pics:

Started off soaking some manzanita wood. May have to change out that bulky overflow box with sump to a canister filter later...unless I can grow something to cover it up.

Dry started with glossostigma seeds:

Seeds began sprouting after 10 days:

Plugged in some ludwigia repens in the corners and bacopa caroliniana in between along with a driftwood with anubias and java moss.

Today...exactly 14 days from the day I sprinkled the seeds onto the substrate. Added a second driftwood and a moss wall.

Any comments and advice are welcome...no live stock yet.

Thanks Alex. Sold those discus awhile back. That pair would've look nice in this tank. Right now,my focus is to get these plants to thrive. I have to refrain from wanting to add more plants.

Found these on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201673299399

They're so cheap, I ordered two bottles. Seeds come in small or large...shrug? I ordered the small. Took approximately 3 weeks to arrive...considering they came from Hong Kong, customs slowed shipment. Can't believe how inexpensive they are...prices range from $1.25 to under $10 with free shipping. One little bottle was more than enough for my 75 gal (48"x18"). Instructions were all in Chinese but a couple videos I found online helped. This method has got to be the fastest way to grow out a carpet.
