how big is the bichir
She's 9 inches. The Cteno is around 3 but it's much harder to get a good measure on him.
I cannot say I have ever kept either of these fish, but the relationship is fascinating.
It really is. I never expected them to be so tight. The bichir will hunt from below while the Cteno comes from above. They don't even fight over food; I've only ever seen the bichir nudge him aside. He'll bump into her and swim under her when she's chilling on leaves. I'm excited to see if the delhezi and other cteno in my grow out tank form a relationship.
thats so cute i almost want 2 go get a Leopard!! lol but im assuming my 2+yr old aggresive cichlid tank probably wouldnt b a good match! will still look into & educate myself on them..
My Senegal Bichir & Tiger Oscar share the same area 2 relax & are quite cordial 2 ea other when eating/foraging/etc only bumping & pushin ea other slightly when necessary lol
I have four of them in my 130 gallon bichir tank. They've always been tankmates. They kinda go together, just like the synodontis catfish that are also in there. I can't say I've ever seen any real aggression from them, and I've been keeping them for almost 15 years.
I'm growing out my own lep cet from petsmart haha in my 30 ga breeder w/my mollies, it seems timid and the mollies would nip at it a lil but it would nip back and now they're all good, haven't seen nipping past the first few days. Would anyone know how fast they grow? I hope to move it into my afro-amazon tank. Got an ornate bichir, red hi fin wolf fish, and in the future a peacock bass (growing out in a friends tank). I've seen em be great with polys loads of times on YouTube n such, at 2 in mine already makes the tank all bubbly from the nesting
They seem to grow very slowly Dr.Gonzo, but they are so tall I think they stand less of a chance of being eaten compared to other fish their length. It's been 7 months and mine has doubled in size approximately.
