My house
Well, I bought my little guy about three weeks ago from a LFS. He was labeled as a dinosaur eel. So, I assumed that it was a Senegal. It was Housed with 4 other similar fish. However, the one that I choose had a brown tint to his upper body with little spots around his dorsal fins and a more pinkish hue to the dorsal fin itself. The little guy is about four inches now and his slight brownish tint has tamed down a bit but his dark brown spots and reddish brown dorsal fin remains. I have read that juvenile senes start stripped and lose their stripes as they grow...I suppose this could explain why it has some differentiated colouration but if so I don't understand why the others where not spotted/stripped as well.

I tried to take some photos but he was hiding and/or wouldn't hold still when out of his hide.

Any thoughts?

I looked at the Commonly mislabeled section... it appears he is a Sene like I originally thought. The juvies pictured in the section had a similar lightly spotted look...

With that question answered, I have another one: Will these spots go away with maturity or do some adult senes have small dark brown spots?

(Sorry about the stupid questions)

they'll fade away as they grow, but some sens still retain them although less.

we would need pics...
+1 No way of knowing without pics. I have a 1+ year old sen that still has small spots also (they haven't changed at all since I got the fish at under 3" long).
