Hey guys I have been concerned about this lump ever since I noticed it , prolly a few weeks after purchasing him. I did have some larger plastic stones in the tank at first I had assumed he accidentally ate & removed all those right away.. but he’s only gotten bigger & so has the bump.
I purchased a 120 gallon a few months ago for him but it came with a gravel & substrate mix that I didn’t really like but didn’t have the money or time to buy new since the tank came with fish already too.
Right now I have a pick up order for 3, 20 pound bags of sand & I am trying to find another 20 pounds of substrate for my plants..I’m hoping this is enough to make the bottom a little smoother for him because yesterday I noticed under his belly , right before the lump his skin in now being cut from the gravel. He hangouts in his ship most of the time now & isn’t as active .. I’m worried he might have a cyst of some kind or if he did swallow something 3 years ago it’s still in his stomach & I have no idea what to do..I’m really hoping some sand will help but I really need to figure out what’s in his belly.
I posted some pictures from a few years ago, a year ago, and a little more recent.
I will try to take some new pictures next time he comes out of his underbelly .
Thank you

Really hard to tell what it is. Could be a growth. I’d leave alone if eating well and acting normal.

That’s what I’ve been thinking it is. I got the substrate now so I’m hoping it helps :/ I just hope it doesn’t bother him.
Thank you

They do love resting on the sand. Personally, I’ve felt a lot better-and less worried-with them on the sand as opposed to gravel. As kno4te mentioned, as long as it is behaving and eating normally it is probably fine. :)

Granted, I have also taken my albino sen to the vet because I thought he had swallowed a snail. Turned out he gets a bulge in approximately the same spot every time he packs his stomach. If resources and location allows, if going to a fish vet would give you peace of mind, I say go for it. They will typically do an x-Ray to rule out any obstructions or structural defects. But again, as others have mentioned, if the fish is acting and eating normally, it is probably okay.

Yes I put the sand in and he loves it! He’s out more often now & he seems happier. I am still worried about the bump tho just cos I have no idea what it is & he’s had it for so long. If I had the money to I would take him to the fish Dr but that would cost way too much. He seems a lot better now tho with the sand & I feel a lot better that it doesn’t seem serious. Thank you guys!!
