i am really sad today because my senegalus bichir jump of the tank, one of my first bichirs that started me to this hobby, and also love for bichirs, it was my fault because haven't covered the tank well enough :duh: , love this bichir even though its size is stuned keep him for 4 years, bury him this morning :(

aww man, sorry to hear that. How much space did you leave open for him? Just curious cuz it might encourage others to cover their tanks up more.

pasensya pô :(

happened to me too. They have the uncanny ablility to find the smallest crack ( usually in the back , where the filters are , and jump out of that tiny crack ). Sorry for the loss.

my palma keeps trying to knock the top off, hope i have exits covered but he's a munster.

:naughty:

never did he tried jumping before within the 4 yrs i kept him, the top cover of the tank which is glass there is a crack on the upper part that is a bit big about 3" x 2" (l x w) haven't replace it for about 2 years, should have replace it :duh:, for now i have cover the cracked area, i replace the glass this weekend

sorry to hear about your loss. :(

I too had a bichir jump out of the tank...my P. palmas buttikoferi and he jumped out the day after he arrived from Toyin. Luckily I found him in time, behind a tank against the wall on the opposite side of the room. That definitely taught me to make sure that every possible hole is covered. People can tell you a hundred times over how important it is, but the importance of keeping the tank completely covered can never really be understood until something like this happens to you.

I know you can't replace him, but getting a few more may help ease the pain a little.
