2 weeks ago i bought my first 2 senegal bichers. both were the same size length-wise and width-wise. they both eat a good variety (flakes from the other fish, shrip pellets, algea wafers and frozen bloodworms n mysis shrimp) both seem to eat their fair share too. one seems to eat more than the other n is gainin weight very well. the other tho is still pretty skinny... should i be concerned??

Get them both on pellets. Flakes are un-nutritional for bichirs. Pump them up with Hikari sinking carnivore pellets.

they r on pellets already. jus said flakes b/c i've seen them pick a few out of the substrate. "Wardley Shrimp Pellets" says its 30% protien.

@crisper: they seem to be pretty good companions tho. they eat side by side n the big one doesnt run him off. Should i try a couple different feeding sites 1st? dont really want to separate them. i think 55 gal should be more than enough space for 2x 3in polys right?

30% Protein is IMO not enough, sinking carnivore pellets contain 47% of them.
Also since those pellets are from shrimps, they might not be really compatible for bichirs.
Best to get them on a more nutritional diet. Market prawn would also work.

As long as they are eating, it should be fine. Different feeding sites would also help.
A 55g can house 2-3 smaller bichir species like sen for life.

I guess i should of done a little more research on their eating habbits. i just trusted petsmart... they said shrimp pellets would work n also suggested the frozen mysis shrimp. seem to pick out the blood worms and every now n again will gulp a couple mysis down... will try tht carnicore pellet tho. might get a cory or two n they'll eat them other pellets!

Senegal will snap at/kill the Cory, and possibly kill its self trying to swallow the cory. IME a 3 inch full grown Cory still gets snapped at by a 8 inch Senegal, also not to mention most Corydoras species thrive best in ~72 degree water, not the ~80 that bichirs do best in. Try a Syndo cat.

Edit: also corys need to be kept in groups no less then 3, preferably 6+, Goodluck!

feed them some tilapia, that will help them gain weight fast!

Thanx for the tilapia advice. where do u normally get them? n do u get fresh or frozen?

Well ex-nay on the corys then. is there a small species of syno cat tht u would recommend pref one tht stays just a few inches?
