Did you apply the silicone on both sides of the cover? if you did how were u able to apply the silicone to the inside? Or does the water pushing against each other requires only the front side on the cover to be sealed. Sorry for all the questions, dont want to empty a 250 gallon tank if the silicone does not hold.
 
Got my overflow covers from GlassCages. $36 a piece plus shipping

I had Midwest plastics (located here in Omaha,Nebraska) make them for me. Ended up being right around $50 a piece. No shipping since they are local.

thanks guys very kind... since i am not in the US now... i will have to DIY... thanks again for the links... those gave me a good idea on making them myself.... cheers ;)

I taped off the front to apply the silicone like you saw in the pics. This alone should be enough. But just to be safe I put some on the inside. I couldn't get the caulking gun inside the overflow so I had to use my finger and reach down inside to apply it.
