Ok, well I have had this severum since it was under 2". At first I thought it was a girl, so I started calling it "Chick" (the name it still goes by). Then, as it got older, I noticed some longer fin extensions, and heard from a couple people on here that they thought it was likely a male.

So, here I am with this male severum named Chick. A lot of time has gone by. Today, after paying some close attention to the tank, and noticing my "dude" acting a little funny, I noticed some eggs on my catfish's log... Chick is actually a chick again.

Man, what a crazy ride of gender confusion. :screwy:... :grinno:

I'd love to pursue trying to breed her with something, but I feel like my hands are tied right now. Right now she is in my 36"x18"x16" 40g with my 5-6" pimelodus "something" (sold as a 4-line, doesn't look like a 4-line), and my 11" P.B. lapradei...

I don't want to add anything without taking out something, and seeing as how I moved my lap from my 55g to give her extra room, I don't want to put her back into the 55g. The only thing I could move is my catfish, but I don't know where to. I have a 29g with a breeding pair of Angelfish (the biggest is 9" tall) and a little laetacara dwarf cichlid that really couldn't handle him, and the aforementioned 55g that has my 4 senegal and 3 delhezi bichirs in it, not to mention my BGK and SDs.

So, yeah...

sounds like time for a new tank ;) even if you dont get a new fish your 29g is the only tank that wont be overstocked when everything matures, delhezis and bgk will need a 75 at least, but if you can afford it i would suggest getting like a 125g and combining the stock fromt he 40g and 55g and then you could also add a male sev to the mix, oh and the way to tell a male severum is not by fin extensions as all sevs have those its by the worming design on their faces

LOL

I appreciate the concern and you trying to help, but in all honesty, I don't need it. I stocked the 55g, and I am well aware of exactly what fish will get to what size. ;)

I'm fine for a long while.

No, i'm not getting a new tank. No space, no money. I have been thinking about selling/trading in the cat for a while now... This makes it a much easier decision.

I just wanted to share my story that I thought was entertaining. Not hear something about fish and tank sizes from someone who just joined a couple of months ago. No offence, it just bugs me. :)

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk... I just have put a lot of time and effort into learning, and knowing what I know, and to have someone talk to me like I don't know something, it just gets to me. I'll try to work on that. :)

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my ego.

first off we NEED pix and second off i would def get a male gold and see what happns, i would sell the pim and the lap should be chill and stay out of the way of a breeding pair of sevs

No pics... no more eggs...

But I definately need to sell or trade in the catfish. I would like to get another severum for her... Maybe i'll just do another order and try to find some kind of cichlid for the 55 too... :naughty:

Make amends with pics, jerk!
Not this time. Yes I am a jerk... :(

I'm thinking about choosing a different cichlid species to put in with her... I don't necessarily have to have a severum, do I?

Wow...a little more than a jerk, Id say...

YES, you do need a bigger tank and need to learn more about the fish you keep....and youve been a member here for 14 months, which qualifies you to be condescending to other members? No, not at all.

" I don't necessarily have to have a severum, do I?"

Your thread SHOWS you dont know what youre doing, so save the internet know it all talk for somewhere where people cant see someone new to the hobby coming a mile away.

Dont get me wrong, NO ONE hear knows it all, but to act like you do, when its apparent that you dont, is asinine at its very core. We all learn from everyone here, regardless of the date under our avatar.
