  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think he'll be fine. Ime jack Dempseys just wanna chill in a cave anyways. He's still a cichlid so I'm sure he be a little tough when he needs to be.

Realize I forgot to post a question... Do y'all think I should keep him or find him a better home?
Your question is flawed, but that's ok...
"He" is a she, as noted by the much shorter ventral fins and somewhat more boxy, shorter body, and so too the less pointed dorsal and anal fins.
As to keeping her... sure, no problem, she's going to always be smaller than most male EBJD.
As for breeding stock... NO... her form leaves much to be desired, esp noting the elongated slope of the "forehead". This area should be much more rounded.
Still a good fish for color and attitude no matter what.
For better growth on any fish, and in particular EBJD, provide an extremely diverse regimen of food... mine are fed Tetramin & Cobalt flake, Hikari Small Marine Pellets, Hikari Cichlid Pellets, Cobalt Algae Wafers, Small guppies plattys & swords, and pink convict fry (my own disease free feeder fish sources). Oh, and the occasional chopped earthworms (down to about an inch so they don't bury themselves in the gravel).
Size-wise... never had a small EBJD and never really had a slow grower... just females usually slower than males.

off topic, so your sig says if you drop the cookie, leave the cookie.

Figured it was a she but no one seemed certain on EBJD visual sexing. Just worried if she stays small if she'll be alright when everyone gets over 8"

She's a Dempsey... you'll only have to remove her if you find her cowering in an upper corner. As long as she's fed well, and so too the other occupants... they'll be less agressive and she'll hold her own.
My prize male is 9", the female is 6". He's got at least another year of growing to do, and she's got about 1 1/4 yrs of growth left in her, though both have slowed somewhat.
Major growth period is from 2 to 18 months. Dissolved oxygen content must be kept high for best growth... NO OVERCROWDING!!! or they just don't grow. It's almost that simple, and as a side note which you probably already know (but just in case), the less crowded a cichlid tank, the less aggression you'll see between them (and the better your chances of success with her).

Lol I'm still scratching my head as to how pops comment was rude and why he needed to apologise???????? Lol.

because that is what we do, it is not how we perceive what we have said but how it is perceived.

You took a big risk there Pops; apologizing and all :D. Last time I apologized my comprehension was refered to as being madness

He apoligized and that's all that really matters. Like he said, it's how it was perceived. I took it as me asking a question and his only response being "your fish is ugly and unhealthy, you probably don't even take care of it." Again, he apologized that it came off wrong and I have great respect for someone who is willing to do that. Props to pops!

Sorry... didn't mean to offend you. It was written as satire (note the emoticons)
I was reiterating the risks of apologies more as a side note to a poor response I received from another member (even after I apologized for misunderstading them, even though what they wrote was not grammatically clear). They then went on with unfounded allegations and a diversion from the main thread.
Again... no offense intended. You both were very cordial and properly respectful of each other.
I sincerely uh:mad:... er......uh......apologize.
There!... I said it (well uh, wrote it)
No harm ever intended.
Sorry....:( We still friends?
But am curious where you got Pops saying "you probably don't even take care of it".
None the less, Pops was correct that it is how it is perceived, and correct in apologizing, and you being correct in being cordial about the situation.
Perceptions can start wars... Apologies can end them before they start.
