I don't think it was from chemical posioning, if it was chemical poisoning from an aerosol can then his other fish would have also got poisoned.

maybe but it would not allways kill all the fish in the tank as i was left with 2 from my 5

Definitely not from chemical posioning. We don't have any air freshner/deorderent any where near the tanks. And if it is chemical posioning, it might happen to other tanks too.
