Pics of the tank set up? I'm trying to piece mine together, but by the time I do he'll need to move up to a pond.

Ill post some pics today as soon as my hangover is a little better. :D

A few thoughts on handling your turtle:

Don't handle it more than necessary. Your turtle will be happier and healthier. You will have less opportunities to get bitten.

Beware of your turtle from this size on. Snappers are particularly difficult to handle at a medium size (maybe 7-10" carapace) because they're too big to grab with one hand and there is hardly room to grab them with both hands.

When it gets bigger watch out for your forearms, belly, face, et cetera. They have a ton of reach with their necks, so keep all body parts behind the turtle. Likewise be careful for others around you.

Beware of the back legs. They have a lot of reach, too, and can try to pull your hand off the carapace. I've never been bitten, but I've been scratched a few times.

I would recommend a big tank over a pond setup. They rarely bask (mine never has) and they are quite boring to look at from above, in my opinion.

Good luck with your Snapper!

Its been over a year since ive updated this thread with info on my turtle. As far as all the guess's on it being a girl you are all wrong. Ive officially found out its a male and thats actually a very funny story. Hes getting very big too. From from of shell to back hes about 8-9". Not very aggressive towards me but he gets very excited to see me during diner time. ill try to grab a few pics tomorrow and upload them for everyone.
