My son shut my filters off, is my Oscar Dieing?

Sorry to hear this - keep changing the water and aerating it.
I'm curious why your filters are on a battery powered source ? Why aren't they simply plugged in to a socket - which would prevent "shutting them off" ?

I have them on a UPS because I live in Florida and we get quite a bit of storms which we tend to lose power with. The UPS is plugged into a wall outlet.

Thanks, but all of my fish have died. Tiger Oscar yesterday and the Red Oscar I have raised since fry today.
