hi this is my spotted gar! is small for now but not for long:naughty: and i would like to know, beside the feeders, what can i give him? thanks and sorry for my english i am french:(

mine eat pellets
but will take a little while and some work before he will accept pellets
and what kind of feeders are we talking about
do you buy them and feed them as it is or do you Quarantine them before feeding them
or do you grow your own feeders
 
be careful about starving as one of mine didn't eat for like a month and then i had to move him out as he was getting outgrown by everything else in the tank
 
how big is he now?

gars will generally accept any meaty foods, and some might veggie sticks.

meaty foods include
-pellets
-prawns
-shrimp(cooked/raw)
-tilapia
-fish fillets
and the list goes on...
 
i usually avoid feeders altogether...try shrimp, krill, pellets, fish fillet, insects, etc...

there are many threads pertaining to diet and enclosure on this forum. if you get a chance you should look around the gar forum and see what you can dig up.

well i am very suprise to here all the stuff you guys feed your gars! mine only eats feeders! i try to bye goldfish and i feed them with colors bites for about 1 month and they are good to go! once he snapt a shrimp but, it was d only time! thanks for your great tricks!!! and by the way is 7 inch:)
 
florida/spotteds are one of the easiest to get off of live foods...when i get a new florida/spotted i can usually have them accepting shrimp within 24 hours. it just requires a little more effort than most people choose to put forth.
