well i am very suprise to here all the stuff you guys feed your gars! mine only eats feeders! i try to bye goldfish and i feed them with colors bites for about 1 month and they are good to go! once he snapt a shrimp but, it was d only time! thanks for your great tricks!!! and by the way is 7 inch:)
now is a good time to starve him and try pellets
get some aro sticks and try feeding him that
if you can do that then you will have a free tank (the tank which you are using for feeders) and keep some thing else there :D

at 7" it might be a lil early, so make sure you have some feeders on standby should he get skinny.

the size is fine to start the weaning on to non-live foods, gars are tough and can pull through with moderate fasting if necessary. i find the transition is easier if meaty foods such as shrimp, smelt, or tilapia is used and then eventually pellets. the smellier and more familiar texture of those foods tend to make the gars switch better than pellets outright (IME), but you can also go straight to pellets if you want. either way, getting the gar off feeders ASAP is the main priority. good luck--

keep in mind goldfish are supposed to contain a thiaminase enzyme which has been shown to be detrimental to fish health, goldfish also have a modified first dorsal and anal ray which is somewhat like a spine...which can also cause issues with feeding or compacting in the digestive tract. overall, goldfish are not a good feeder even if they are well maintained. i would go with another species of fish, or just cut out live food altogether (probably the best option). good luck--
