I feed mine hay, romaine with calcium powder. That is the main diet. I also give a piece of banana or cantaloupe a couple of times a week as a treat. These also make great training devices. I feed as I get them - dandelion greens and flowers, roses, hibiscus, violets, grape leaves, cactus pads and some other stuff. Fruits and veges are in general bad for sulcatas. You should look online for some sulcatta sites. I found a ton of info. It also seems that there is a large growth spurt at age 7. So I am in for it this year. Males are territorial - keep this in mind if you ever think of getting another. I also found a hilarious site that strongly discouraged people from getting one. She said to take an 80 pound bag of concrete and mix it up and pour it in the largest dog igloo you could find, let it set up and then tip it right side up and place the large blob on one of those work under your car things with wheels. Then roll it around bashing it into everything. Inside the house and out. If the damage this contraption did didn't bother you, then get a sulcatta. She also told a story of one that went up four steps of a deck, busted through the screen door and locked itself in a bedroom. It then bashed the door till it tore the door down and went back outside.
I spend a lot of time training my turtles to come when I call, paper training, and hand feeding. I figure it will pay off when they are too big to pick up to put in the house.
