When its really just a hybrid, flowerhorn. It usually happens due to the fact that the breeders in Thailand or Vietnam, whom I no loner buy fish from, are probably feeding them who knows what, to produce such massive humps.
Also the fact that 90% of the FHs imported to the US have parasites from being fed too much live food to "pump up" their fish and the stress of the shipment lowers their immune system; when it really comes down to the genetics of the fish.
Either way, nice flowerhorn. Hope he lives long

I dont know how you get that as a fact and I think it's totally opposite. I think the fhs in Thailand are stunted and older than they seem with their size. Their bodies stay shrunk skinny and small with huge head and adult shape already only just skinny and small. A pumped up fish never look that way.
They pump them up as fry to get them to sellable size ,usually to 3 inches then they stop feeding to save money.

The fact I was referring to was about having parasites when shipped overseas due not only to the stress of shipment, but the live food that is fed or possibly hormones.
Even de-worming doesn't always work because it may be too late
