My super sad night

The day before yesterday, my pike cichlid decided to throw a temper tantrum and jam himself into a hole in a fake rock. I tried to get him out, but he was pouting, so I left him alone. He pouts and throws fits a lot, so I figured it would pass.
It turns out that he really hurt himself and was stuck this time. I had to cut the decor to get him free. He'd torn himself up pretty badly. I did everything I knew to get him better, but to no avail. He died tonight. My 5 year old daughter is heart broken. She adored that fish.
I just wanted to post about him because I am really sad. He was such a cool guy. He was about 9", and had so much personality.
 
ohhh man even worst when there are children are involved with the hobby.

woah thats sucks, I've had a few close calls but in such situations you gotta take over for the fish, despite its protests. One big problem with all pets is that they cannot accurately communicate what may be a problem, what hurts. Dont blame yourself for it, freak accidents happen. I hope you get a worthy replacement.
 
Yeah had same promblem with fish over the years with some decor. They would try to lounge themselves in there. My large 8 year old angelfish would do this with a castle decoration I had. I removed the castle when I saw it doing this, well live and learn and intervene when you see a situation about to happen. Get another pike I am sure she will like it in time.
 
Sorry to hear about your lost bro! On the positive side of things you can bring your daughter to the LFS to pick out a new fish! :headbang2
 
She sat and cried, which of course, made me sit and cry with her! Even her grandpa knew how much she loved him, and told her that if he didn't pull through, he'd get her set up to get a puffer. She'd mentioned one time that she thought puffers were cool, and she knew I wanted one. It looks like I will start cycling water today.
