My Sveni is DEAD!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Calm down dude, you'll get over it - everyone loses fish in this hobby. I recently lost an entire harem of geophagus tapajos orange heads for unknown reasons, followed by 5 vieja argentea - for no reasons I can still figure out.

Can be disheartening - but don't let it detour you from a great hobby.

I loose fish like anyone else, but she was my everything. My parrots and my female RD make me feel the same way. I will never give up, I am just hurting right now....sorry for spilling my guts here.

sorry bout your loss, how long did you have her? how long was she?

She was about 18 months old. She was just getting to 7" and starting to show a red belly...

is that the only way to tell m/f on a sveni? i picked up 1 of the 2 they had at petco a month ago and tossed it into my pond with 11 xlarge goldfish pair of pacu clown knife african brown knife and a pair of needle nose gar. clown knife died, everything came out normal exept for the pike it came out huge, in one month. i picked up the other one that had been the same size as it (was still at the store a month later not much call for pike in my area) and it isnt half the size of the one i pulled out of my pond. sorry im rambling. i guess what im saying is if you want another one 7" and tough enough to tackle the fh pm me and ill toss one in my pond for a couple months :)

P_P said the black blotch on the dorsal is the most tell tale way to sex sveni...Blotch means female. That is very nice of you to offer to grow another one out for me. I think I will buy a group of 10 this time and try to get a pair...

if i could get a decent pic id show you a pic of my 2 pike together as a size reference. it is ridiculous how much bigger the one that was in my pond is compaired to the one that stayed at the lfs. i literally started to freak out when i saw him after never seeing him for that month just repeatedly throwing in bags of 30-50 rosey reds, and watching all the goldfish fry disappear. my gar, and the african brown knife are about the same size they went in as. not the pike. i think im gonna get a lugubris next time though im thinking about special ordering 3 or 4 vittata just to see how big i can get them.

Someone made a good point about me being able to focus on my cinctas....As to the last post, I have tanks in my basement...All of the fish in my basement grow twice as fast as the fish subjected to my loud arse kids upstairs...The fish upstairs eat WAY more than the fish downstairs too....Tank sizes are negligable....Just an observation I have made with my own little research in my own house :)

hmmm so my 90 gallon for my sveni and oscars in my basement pond room with my indoor pond for my pacu and future lugubris that no one except me goes into should be a pretty good place for them to get big fast is what you're saying.
