my sw tank

nice fish. especially the lungfish... very rocking.

"lets say the triggers eating well"

yeah... triggers/puffers plus inverts is generally a no go unfortunately, so picking a cleanup crew can be difficult. you may have to buy a load of turbo snails, nassarius snails, and hermits. and then top it up every few weeks, as some of your CUC die off or get eaten. it wont do the trigger any harm either. the shells will grind down thier teeth, as they have teeth like rodents that constantly grow and need to be filled down.

the same applies to puffers.

ok gotta see pics

somehow I missed this post

well quick update.

I started the set up of the transfer tank for moving this tank upstairs, except one big issue. when I put in the sand that I bought from another persons tank, they neglected to tell me that they had buried some very big turbo snails in the bucket with the sand. It smelt like I had unearthed a rotting corpse when I dropped the sand in the tank.

Well, lets just say won't be a problem getting a good cycle going lololol.

I have also been seasoning some base rock in a tank down stairs, so I figured I may as well put it in the tank as well and power up a hob to get some flow in the tank.

I put this one in my bedroom, so it will make a very nice night light whooot.

The 2 cardinals I put in did not take to the tank, I could not get them to eat and they just stayed up in the corners all freaked out from the time I put them in the tank, so saddly they are no more.

I will put some pics up of this new tank in the days to come. I decided for now to go against putting the 168 as sw, if I do put a sw here I will convert my 140g to sw from fresh. Just feel better having my sw set ups at home.

ok so here is the new tank when I just set it up, I got it from a pet store so algae on the back came free lololol. I decided to leave my 140g as african and will be converting a 100g and this 75g. I had the live rock sitting in one of my vacant tanks downstairs keeping it alive.

I ran the second batch of tests tonight and decided after looking at the results that I would transfer my 2 clowns, 2 domino damsels, 3 hermits and niger trigger upstairs to this tank to keep them from getting eaten by my panther grouper I put in the downstairs tank last week.

nitrite 0, nitrate 2.5, amon .1 and high ph 8, so I thought it was good enough to start them in there. It took a good hour for the clowns to start to move about the tank, and the domino were at it right now. The trigger went into im freaked out hide me mode. I will be redoing the rock so that it sort of does a diagonal left front line to back right. I want to hide the aqua 110 powerhead a bit.

Yet here is what it looks like now

The 100g the lungfish is in in my living room will be converted to sw and I will take gramps to live at work with me.

this weekend I picked up my 3rd sw set up. I took a few shots last night of some of the stock that came with it

in my mind was a sweet deal 500 bucks for a 90g with all this
comes with 1x rena xp3 filter,1x fluval 404 filter,2x 180 protein skimmers,2x aqua 200 filters,2x seio powerheads,2x maxi-jet power heads,2x 48" t-5 10000k lights,2x 48" 50/50 antic lights,2x 48" corallife lights 60+ live rock.sand,extra 30 gallon for sump, and all additives,salt,pails. 2x false percula clowns,1x black/white clarki clown, 1x long spike sea urchin,1x regal tang, 1x tomato clown,1x juveniele angel,mushrooms,zoos,assorted corals. whole setup

so now i have a 75 and 65 set up and I am going to convert a 180g here at my restaurant into sw this weekend

Beautiful KORAN! I just got one myself Tuesday and he loves being transfered from the 6 inch wide sale tank he was in to his new home he hasn't stopped swimming about yet. How big is yours? Mine 3-4 inches and is already showing signs of yellow on his nose and dorsal fin.

i would say approx 3 inches

I am so pumped at the sw stuff i have been able to pick up over the past 2 years. I will have an insane tank or two when Im done. Now to configure the different gear set ups lololol

my best purchase was the stock and stuff from a defunct sw company. I did some cost analysis and figured i got about 24k in stuff for 2k

ok so the last 3 set ups I bought from people I knew they were problem children just from the amount of algae that was in them, but, I was really after the livestock and the gear that came with them.

I made sure that the 75g in my bedroom was done with clean sand free from the nastiness and I made sure to boil the rocks to make sure any algae on them was toastio. The 65 in my living room is another story, as shown in my earlier post. Well I have pretty much decided that I am going to wipe out the 65 in my living room. I am going to get the corals onto rocks that are not infested with red slime and green algae and then after I divide the fish and corals between the 75 in my bedroom and the 180 that I have prepped in the restaurant, I am so going to sterilize the sand and the rocks so that this problem with algae and red slime is over and done.

I am wondering though since I have some heavy flow with the overflow on the 180g will the clowns get themselves stuck to the eggcrate or are they smart enough to avoid it. I am debating on just moving my larger fish to the 180 first and then the smaller guys in time. I will take some pics and update them on this thread this weekend, my batteries are dead in my camera so not happening tonight.
