My Tank Has Reddish Spots On Glass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure why anyone is saying it's cyanobacteria, cyano will be bluish green and come off in sheets. This is just some random red algae, in my opinion it looks nice when it grows on hardscape. I personally keep it in my tanks because the fish graze on it. Cyano on the other hand is rarely eaten by fish.

I’ve had cyano in red and black - it comes in all colors (and the marine variant is primarily red).
I had some bad experiences with chemiclean killing my fish, so I personally wouldn’t recommend it (though it did do wonders for the cyano). Most likely I dosed wrong and didn’t provide enough oxygen.
Something I have started to combat algae is dosing Rid-x to the tank. Essentially the bacteria outcompetes the algaes for nutrients. It takes a bit longer to really work, but the results are incredible.
