My tank is melting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh yeah, i used that the first time i had ich, but i realized as long as you get iodine free salt, you should be good; and you save money. only bad part is when your mom is cooking and she asks you where the salt is and you pull it out from under your tank stand and she says nevermind lol

What exactly is the salt and tank temperature raising going to do here? What you are describing is a treatment for ich. At this point, the OP said that only a few of his fish were infested with ich, and those fish are very susceptible to ich. The ich, I believe, was secondary to the real problem, given that not all the fish were infected. By the way, you can use iodized salt in tanks, iodine is a very usful trace element. I might have missd somthing, but raising th temperature when the fish are brathing heavily is never a good idea.
Also, what LFS does autopsies? I've never heard of that before at all.
Again, also, if you all don't have anything to add, please stop flaming. If you can't say anything nice......

Ive had good luck using maelafix and pimafix. ive had horrible luck using the two together though. both times that i have used both simultaneously or one shortly after the other i have lost most of my fish. do big water changes daily and pick one or the other. Thats the only reccommendation i have based on my experience. I wish you luck.

Brian wtf kind of comment is that? You can be such a A-hole at times. This guy needs help and this is what u call helping others? Ppl would expect some help and expert advice especially from a member like you with nearly 10k posts instead of leaving dumb comments like this...U must really get a kick out of it picking on noobs don't ya? IMO that's pretty sad from a 42 year old...

Anyways back on topic and to the OP. I'm no expert at healing fish but my only advice to u would be get your testing kits and test your water parameters asap then come back and post them and maybe a real expert can tell u what's wrong.

 someone other than me finally said it  THANK YOU crazy fish

OP I would start doing some water changes daily until you get your test kit situation in order. Then if the params are correct get a close diagnosis and perhaps use paraguard it worked like a charm for me. Best of luck to you.

Also as a side note make sure your water has plenty of oxygenation when using melafix or pima fix it has a tendency to starve out a bit of oxygen in my experience.

Waterchanges, then more waterchanges.Clean the mechanical media in your filters.Test kit.
Theres the good advice given so far.
Whatever you do dont go to the lfs looking for advice.Dont start dumping salt into the tank.Leave the temp at where it is.

Also, you may want to stop using melafix and pimafix because I have had some bad experiences with that and they both contain clove oil, which is used to euthanize fish and animals.

Actually neither Melafix nor Pimafix contain any clove oil.

I think we might have scared off the OP. If we havn't, any progress on the tests, further symptoms, anything?

LOL no need to thank me, some ppl just need to stick up for themselves:headbang2instead of getting scolded by a 42 yr old. Anyhow I was browsing some threads and saw my quote as your sig which I think is hilarious so I came back to this thread to see how that happened lol.

Did a water test at local pet store---they assure me that everything is "fine, just fine." Well, it's not fine. Last two spotted raphaels died today found floating. I added another sponge filter and am doing 50% water changes daily now. No feeding, no more Mela or Pimafix.

One hoplo has a white 'wart' on his barbel that is growing larger to boot.

have you tried adding more oxygen?

low oxygen = stress , stress = ich
