bacteria is fine in the tank. I think it is alge. I will cut down the feeding. nothing dead in the tank. filter is brand new. had it for a week now

Don't you have another thread saying that you have cloudy water?

What are the water parameters after you test?

what is your nitrite/ammonia readings?

High levels will cause a smell and cloudy water.

Carbon or even better, Purigen.

Your feeding schedule isn't a bad thing, but make sure there is minimal uneaten food in the tank.

For smell problem, I would use both! Purigen = +1

YOU ARE PROBALY LEAVING YOUR LIGHT ON TO LONG .THE LIGHT WILL EVAPORATE THE WATER ON IT MAKE A BAD STENCH

 Carbon is a temp. quick fix to cut down the odor but it's not the cure for the problem itself. Need more info to determine the root cause. Tank size, number & kind of inhabitants, type of filtration, water paramerters. You said one of your filters was 'new'. It's quite possible it hasn't caught up w/ your bio load but that's just a long shot guess w/out the rest of the info. "T"

:iagree: chemical filtration is just not needed for clear non-stank water.

Also vaccum your gravel thouroughly, and rinse any decorations that dont allow for water to circulate through them.

I agree, works for stank water, not for good water. Stank water temp fix = -1

Find out what is causing problem, and remedy. Then use chem filtration to bring it back to normal.
