what did you use for the sides, is that wood paneling or actually thin boards?

the sides are made of thin pieces of board as you see in the first two pictures, the same board the top and bottom is made with, almost like cardboard. except for the sides.

than interlocking panels were put together, and put over the board and nailed to the frame and thin boards, and on the sides, only nailed to the frame, so that the design can be seen on the inside at the sides of the inner shelves, the back of the inner shelves is plain board with a coat of finisher. We used a nail gun with air compressor to assemble the paneling. I know i worded that wierd but I hope it explains it.

Im not sure of the specific type of wood used, but it is the same type of wood that is used on the paneling of the walls in the background (my dad did that aswell) and it is used on boats (we did the interior of our boat with it) so it is strong and water proof.

but if what your asking is wether it's just designs carved into a board with a router or thing boards interlocked. The answer is they are all individual boards locked together, a lot like the way wood flooring is locked together.

well actually, other than the nails, the building cost was zero, my dad worked at a logging company as a mechanic, and he got the wood for free from there.
the wood used though is a rather expensive kind of wood from what I know, due to its durability and water resistance.

we used a total of 34 of the darker boards.

We measured and built it to the size and ratio of the 55 gallon tank, with about a 2 " overhang at the back of the tank to make room for air pumps, etc. and it has about a 2 cm border around the outside of the tank.

good luck bro, please post some pics, id love to see them when you get at it.

Thanks a lot everyone to the excellent comments! :grinno: :grinyes: :headbang2
