@OP: Get some fresh carbon in there. Could test the water (mainly ammonia and nitrite) as well. If you think any of your fish have fin rot, set up a hospital tank with some sand, gravel, or media from the tank they came from and treat with maracyn 2.

It's a 5 gallon tank. Just add meds and don't bother with a hospital tank. Good idea on the carbon.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry I haven't gotten back as soon as I could, I was really busy.Yesterday night I put some new carbon in the filter pad, and guess what? Today morning the water is as clear as it was before!!I am so happy!
Thanks for wasting your time on me!!!

You can't leave on that note...

What are your tanks nitrogen cycle readings?

Also, what type of filter are you using?

OK... i have the same problem...i have a 100 gallon tank and have had driftwood in there for about a year and a half... no problems until now...just moved to another house and drained about 75% of the water and the water wont clear up... used chemicals to clear the water, did water changes, added carbon, and added a canister filter and it just wont go away...had water tested and it was normal so HELP!!

could be a difference in the water source? does your substrate and surfaces on the ground look like a brown dusting or is it just brown water?

if it is diatoms you may need to replace your lighting if those bulbs have been in use for a while.
