I have never kept Vics with Malawi, so I couldnt comment, but I can see Malawis being more dominant than Vics, like you say.

i have good success with mixing mbuna and haps...
escept for melanochromis which are a pain in the butt
but my largest fish in my 90(ps. crabro) is one of the most docile...he just enjoys swimming around...but everyone knows he's the boss cuz his size...
