My Tarantulas

What is that substrate you use for the rose hair?

It's the same substrate that I use for all my other tarantulas: a 60/40 mix of peat moss and vermiculite. It seems to hold humidity pretty well and holds up pretty well when the tarantulas burrow; for example, the H. nepalensis has already burrowed to the bottom of its enclosure, and its tunnel seems to be holding up pretty well.

I'll try to get some new pictures taken tonight; I finally got around to adding the new decorations last night, and I want to give the tarantulas some time to get used to them. The P. striata had filled its water dish with substrate, so I had to clean that out, too; the H. nepalensis has made some pretty cool tunnels and webbing in the short time that I've had it.

The newest acquisitions were:
  • 1x Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater (Lasiodora parahybana) 2"
  • 1x Euathlus sp. Pichidanqui Blue Beauty 1"
  • 2x Orange Baboon (Pterinochilus murinus) 0.5"

Okay, here are those pictures:

0.0.1 Orange Baboon #1 (Pterinochilus murinus) 0.5"

The other P. murinus wasn't being quite as photogenic as this one; the other one has already proven to be an escape artist once, but I have remedied that problem.

Here's some updated pictures of some of the other ones.

This one has been making some sweet web tunnels & funnels; I hope that it keeps up that behavior as an adult.

0.0.1 Mysore Ornamental (Poecilotheria striata) ~5.0"

This little bugger decided to fill its water dish with substrate and webbing earlier, but I had to dismantle its "wonderful" creation in order to give it the new piece of cork bark.

That's all I have for now; more little ones will probably be added in the somewhat near future.

I don't understand why people have such an irrational fear of these critters; they're not dangerous for the most part.

Ouch, I bet that wasn't fun.
