I know ponds generally have a totally different train of thought on filtration... but I run nearly 4000gph on my 200gal fish tank, so 3000gph for your 3000gal pond might be a bit slim.

I'd run some numbers on heating it before even considering fish that need warm water. Dunno what the ambient stays like there, but a pond is large, and open to atmosphere and evaporative cooling, so keeping it warm can suck up a TON of energy. Parents might not be all smiles anymore when they start getting the hydro bill. (I'm assuming you're not paying for the power if it's at your folks' house.)
im glad u reminded me about that, my landscaper whos helping me said the exact same thing. he recommended me to go with a 3500 or 4000 gph. thanks

i live biuld ponds in Michigan for the #1 pond biulding company in MI and the number one concern about your desighn is that depending where you want to place the water falls, you will need to give yourself more room to create a natural slope down from the lip of the biofalls. you dont want to make a sharp angled drop or you loose the natural look. Another concern for every pond is the burns that you create around the pond, make them low enough to not become an eye sore but beware of making them too low, this is always an area will leaks can and do form over time.

denifitly i acutally thought of that but not fully understood but the slope from the waterfall to the skimmer will be 1ft or a bit more.

i dont really understand about the burn. can u explain that for me plz
