Makes me laugh when people make threads like this with comments like 'I have a Convict with my Discus and it works'. (The fish ends up being the size of a peanut)

Haha bad example.
When I kept discus I always had a pair of convicts breeding in with them. It kept everybody active. A convict isnt messing with a full-grown discus. They arnt that tough.

But I do get what your saying. Somebody will run around saying that the Red Texas they have had for a month gets along with 2 JD and a Midas in a 90gal. That makes it a fine stocking.
Its that and the folks that are like since it working for me it will work for you. Then they will come on here and ask how to stop their fish from fighting. Its extremely hard to not make mistakes when just starting out in fishkeeping, There is so much mixed information out there, people dont take it seriously.

Another bad example. A spawning convict pair will destroy a full grown discus in a heart beat...you just got lucky. Pound for pound, convicts are about the hardiest, meanest, most tenacious & violent cichlids there are.

Ive had a spawning convict pair take over 80% of a 125 forcing a 9" red devil, 6 " trimac and about 6 red tail sharks into the other 20%...and had another spawning pair take over more than half of a 265 forcing an 8" female dovii, pair of RTMs and 3 festae all over 5" into the other half causing total chaos in the tank, eventually killing 2 of the hard headed festae...forcing me to split the pair.

Spawning convicts only worked for me in communities when i had more than 10 convicts as target fish in a tank, then they harassed each other more than the others when spawning.

I can agree with convicts being hardy, mean, and tenacious, But I would have to contradict them being most violent. Ive had my share of convicts, They fight dirty which scares other fish, But they arnt murders like some fish I've had. Seems like you've been through war with the Convicts, I can say the same about Cyano's. They were a meannnnn pair.
My cons were maybe a little over half the size of the discus. I got 6 baby cons and they grew up with the adult discus. Kept 2 as breeders and always had 20+ fry swimming around the tank. Mind this was only a 60gal. 4 discus. This was probably 3 or 4 years ago and I dont think I'd keep the same stocking again though.

That is what a lot of people say but the large male I had was pretty chill. Once that trimac gets bigger all hell will break lose..
