With Trimacs it is always a gamble. If they are not going to breed one of them (probably the female) will end up dead and that's heart breaking. Like previously stated you could try turning up the temp to about 85 or 86 for wile, I don't know your present temp setting and do big water change. Feed some earthworms and Krill to condition them and try again.
I don't have a female only a male ~9" in a 110 and he is intolerant of any other fish he seems to perceive as a threat to his dominance. I have two yoyo loaches and a 3.5" Con he hardly pays attention to. The 7" RD that was in with him was almost killed one day after living together for 5 months with no signs of any major aggression. That’s my experience. There are much more knowledgeable people on here so maybe they have a better answer. I guess with a big enough tank, which I don't have most anything is possible. I see proof of that on here all the time. I said Trimacs are like pit bulls with fins they just don't like other fish around them. I wish you all the best with them. You have great looking fish!

That is a flowerhorn. Certainly not a trimac

To the OP. Why do you need to take down the divider? They shouldn't have any trouble spawing through an eggcrate divider. You get to keep your great looking pair and you get fry!!!

How exactly do you get your pair to spawn through the divider?

Most people that breed large aggressive CA cichlids use dividers and do not remove them. Put a rock or something for the female to spawn on right next to the divider. She will almost always lay on it and the male will fertilize the eggs through the divider. You get a lower fertility rate but you can still get pretty good size spawns and you never risk your fish. If the female is smaller then the male you can cut a hole for her to go through that he cannot, but if they are close to the same size you just have to keep them completely divided.

Well I went back down to check on them and they did a lot of damage to each other. So I put the divider back up. Im not sure what my next step will be. Id hate to see them kill each other I've had both since they were 1" Any suggestions. Both of these fish are nasty.

Great pair!

It amazes me to see such a massively built head on a male that size -- somehow my male has always stayed "thin" from the time I got him from Ken 2 years back.

Unfortunately I've had similar experience with my pair, the bickering just won't stop. And as the male gained size on her, the female was mostly at the receiving end and had most damage in the fights. I had to give her up to avoid her getting killed. I hope you have different experience, it will be amazing for you if they bred and formed a strong pair.
