My Tropical Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To tell you the truth,, I've never seen pictures of Guapotes like these. For some reason the females get pretty beat up when breeding in the rocks. The males are beautiful. There fins radiant blue with leapord spots on their backs. I'll try and get some better ones later. It's the rainly season here in Costa Rica and there is so much glare.

From what I can see of the fish they are Parachromis Dovii. The largest Cichlid in the Central america area. Nice fish!!

wow a pond full of dovii, you sir are a very lucky man :)
a 25,000 gallon pond huh, if i were you I wouldent stop at peacock bass with that size pond you could get an arapima as well:headbang2

Remember I still plan to swim in there with my kids. I don't want to lose a foot, or even worse. I'm still lobbying with my wife for the project so I need to push as many uses for the pond as possible.

I havn't seen any pictures of other quapote that even come close to having this brite blue tale.
I havn't notice them being too aggressive. I have the 20 quapotes with about 20 other smaller national breeds. All of the species seem to be breeding nicely. When the fry get about an inch long they seem to dissapear.

Amazing pond, makes me wish it was warm enough here for one
